Friday before Easter 2006
Myles and Kelly came into town so the kids have had a great time playing at Grandma Holly’s house, digging holes looking for worms. A few weeks before Ruth and Carter were doing the same thing, digging for worms. Ruth had no idea what a worm was, she was just going with the flow. The next day Hillarie told her she would help her catch a worm and she was ecstatic. Telling everyone who would listen that she was going to catch a real worm, gesturing wildly, going back and forth from the back to the front yard to get shovels and buckets. Then I asked her… “Ruth, what is a worm?” And she stopped dead and had a look of deep bafflement on her face. She didn’t know, so I told her it was a little squiggly bug that had no eyes and ate dirt. She left still happy, but a tad hesitant as well. When Hillarie finally unearthed one she refused to touch it…or be near it. Apparently worms aren’t as exciting as they first sounded.
