Happy birthday Kayda Jane! What a cutie!
After giving her a few more days to let the button dry up completely, (and after last nights barf drenching...) Today was the big day:Adele had her first tub bath. Much different than the other 3 kids' "first bath" experiences. When I laid her down she got this look on her face reminiscent of wonder...or maybe it was just a weird de-ja-vu moment for her, but whatever it was it involved no crying. She didn't make a peep the whole time! I love the smell of clean babies. Liam is always sniffing her and announcing if she "mells good" or "hoo-wee, she stinks"
All my babies have been wonderful eaters, yet so different in their eating habits. Ruth ate what was given her, in whatever form presented. She had no preference over breast or bottle, probably thought the occasional variety was nice. Then Neil came along and tolerated nursing, but overall preferred the bottle, and definitely preferred formula. *had a bit of a complex over that one for a bit* Liam made up for it by flat refusing to even entertain the idea of getting his food in any other form other than from me.
It's a bit early to know for sure what Adele's preferences are, she nurses great and takes a bottle great, but they all did (Even Liam) for the first few weeks. Formula was actually all of their first meals except for Adele. One thing with her that I have noticed though, is she feels it necessary to feed on BOTH sides at most of her feedings. *sigh* I know 99% of people I talk to nurse that way as a standard, but my other babies have always gotten punch drunk on one side so I never ever fed on both sides, and to be honest I really liked it that way. Now I'm always mixed up on what side I should start on not knowing if she will decide its a feeding worthy of seconds or not. I often wonder if she actually NEEDS the second helping because this happens sometimes *not always* after she gorges:
Lucky dad right? her shirt was as bad off as his, its just harder to tell. I sometimes wonder if I'm just being used in lieu of a Binky since she (like Liam) isn't much interested in using a bink. (believe me I have tried them all) I bought one of every shape and size for Liam, with no luck, and tried them all with Adele too. She will take the green hospital ones for all of 20 seconds or so but over all is not interested. I was at Target yesterday and she was grumpin' at me in her car seat and it dawned on me that I have never bought the NUK brand so on a whim I grabbed one off the shelf and popped it in her mouth (I know, another bad mom moment, I didn't boil it first...) and Lo and behold!
*It worked* Don't get me wrong, she isn't a fussy baby, the fact that she doesn't take a Binky only has me a little worried that she is going to be another one of these: not that he isn't the cutest thing ever while he has his thumb in his mouth, I'm just worried about dental bills and the chance of him ingesting some creepy illness from a shopping cart. We will see how long she takes the NUK, I'm not buying more unless it looks like they are becoming fast friends. ( I hope they do, much easier to take away a bink than a thumb, believe me I have tried that too!) HOWEVER, if it does turn out that I have two thumb suckers, It wont be the end of the world, Nothing is cuter than a baby sucking it's thumb. ('specially mine)

Adele met her thumb and Aunt Hillarie for the first time today!
Hillarie just got back from Africa where she spent time with kids in orphanages, helped build benches, buildings and did some other amazing service projects. Welcome home Hillarie!

I just had to add this picture of Ruth after she dressed herself this morning. I thought this look, reminiscent of the 80's was especially funny after her tribute to the 70's yesterday with her "peace love and ice cream" shirt. This enormous shirt has a story behind it, last year I got her a school shirt, but it was grey and after learning that "NO GIRLS" wear the grey shirt I promised her i would buy her a pink one next year. Weeeeell this was last years shirt and an adult small was the smallest they had when I finally got up to the front of the line at meet the teacher night. I did get her a purple one in sort of her size (child's medium)but it doesn't have a crown on it. Don't you love the leggings though? I was shocked she wore them, (don't tell her leggings are tight...)
I gave Neil a haircut for his first day of school today. I thought for sure I had messed it up, but I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I think he maaaaaay have forgiven me for skitching it a little while ago because he was still able to flip it up for school. He did enjoy himself today, but It just wasn't the same as Mrs. Kerry. :( poor boy, what will he say next year with ANOTHER new teacher?)
Adele's "Um-bilicin" cord fell off today. Most people I have talked to find the umbilical cord stump on newborns icky, and while I certainly don't think they are precious, I still have a bit of a hard time saying goodbye when they fall off. It just doesn't seem like they are quite as...new, as they were moments before it falls off. I do love seeing what the button looks like though when it does fall off. Baby peices are so scrumptious. Seriously though, can any other creature elicit praise and adoration just from having armpit fat or thigh rolls? (I can't)

Que la dia!
My day started out an hour earlier than I had originally planned. I read the clock wrong, it was 6:30 when I got up instead of 7:30. I couldn't figure out why Marcus wasn't getting up and getting ready for work yet, I just figured he was sleeping in as a birthday present to himself. Yes, my wonderful turned 30 today. *sniff-sniff* (this means I'm only about a year and 3 weeks away from it myself)
Anyway! Ruth Started 1st grade today.
I have been having a harder time with first grade than I did with Kindergarten. I didn't know what to do this morning about dropping her off. I was planning on walking her in and staying until I knew she was where she needed to be, BUT I decided to call the school to ask them what the procedure was. The lady in the office said I did NOT have to walk her up and that the teachers were all going to be out there to make sure everyone ended up where they needed to be. Okay. So I didn't wake the boys up until the last second before we got in the car and they were all bleary eyed in their mis-matched hulk, Mr. incredible, and dinosaur jammies with no shoes on. I was totally cool with that though, we weren't getting out. I told Ruth that I would wait in the "parent drop off lane" until she found her teacher and waved at me. She never found her teacher, she just wandered around aimlessly, eventually just sanding still looking around. I tried to signal her from 50 yards away to come back when the bell rang and all the kids ran to line up but she just kept looking around for her teacher. I felt bad for my little lost lamb, but with my car full of kids and an impatient line of cars behind me what was I going to do?!?! Seriously what would you have done? You probably would have planned on unloading your kids from the very first and walked your Little first grader up to her class huh? Hind sight is *grumble$@#%$#* So (and please don't report me to CPS) I rolled down the windows a third of the way (so no one could get in or out) turned off the car and booked it across the playground as fast as my stitches would allow me to go. I did pretty good considering I was wearing the wrong kind of bra for such endeavors. *ahem* I grabbed her hand and whirled on the closest lanyard bedecked adult demanding to know where the 1st graders were to go. (all I could see were 2nd and 3rd grade line up cones.) Silly school put the 1st graders around the corner where no one could find them (Megan = no on... apparently everyone else found it OK) Once we made it over to the far side of the building her class had already gone inside so looking back and forth from the open door I was holding, to my car across the playground with 6 cars behind it... back to the open door, then down to Ruth. I squeezed her hand and said "Your room is the last one on <-- this side of the hallway, can you make it by yourself?" No one can accuse me of raising a jellyfish. She kissed me goodbye and bravely skipped off down the hall. I told her to ask a teacher if she couldn't find the room, it was the kinder hallway so I knew she would recognize the teachers. Then I took off bouncing back across the playground back to my car. I was feeling horribly guilty three different ways, my poor Ruthie (was FINE) My poor boys (were still 1/3 of the way asleep) the poor people waiting in cars behind me (were not IN their cars, they were empty!) Okay so I felt better and the whole thing took all of 60 seconds thanks to my running skills. I know I'm just rationalizing a sad case of child abandonment and now I have guilt again. I'm changing the subject.
Marcus turned 30 today so after we dropped Ruth off, we went home, ate breakfast, took Neil to his pre-school orientation, and then ended up at the grocery store. So relaxing to grocery shop. If every store had a kids club with a wii and movies, I would probably shop around more, but for now we only go to Fry's. Marcus couldn't decide if he wanted steak or Mexican food for his b-day dinner so I thought I would try my hand at carne asada. After an afternoon of chopping, prepping and trying to cajole Liam into actually laying down and resting in his bed instead of being a spider monkey we went and got Ruth and took Neil to Karate. I accidental took him 45 minutes early so we popped over to Wal-mart to buy Ruth and Neil's present for dad (socks, trick candles and silly string) Neil has had this silly string idea cooking up in his brain for about 5 months now. He was so excited that we were actually going to get to DO it. The original plan was to spray him when he was about to blow out the candles, but I wasn't sure how good an idea that was...is silly string flammable? and with trick candles... Anyway they just had dad close his eyes after he opened his socks and the rockin' new shades Uncle Reddin was kind enough to pick out for me. *Thanks Reddin* I immediately had regrets on the silly string in the house. I don't know why it took me until I told them to go ahead to be like "NOOOO!%^#%^&%$$#!!!!!!" but whatever. I needed to vacuum anyway (never got around to it from my last post.) I kicked them outside to play. We ended the evening with fathers blessings and this has been another long rambling post. *yaaawn*

Summer vacation is finally over, the weekend I thought would never arrive has finally arrived... and its been a very nice weekend too. It seemed for a while there that I would be pregnant forever as the long hot days of July streched on and on into the wild brown yonder. BUT! Baby arrived: August has arrived, and Wednesday afternoon Marcus, Ruth, Neil and Liam packed up and went to Flagstaff for one last hurrah before *:::!!school starts!!:::* (happy dance) on Monday *Tuesday for Neil* I have a few more hours to take a shower, clean up the candy wrapers, hide the fast food bags, and vaccume up the crumbs off the easy chair before they get home tonight. I always appreciate this first weekend of August, absence does make the heart grow fonder. Thanks for the weekend Marcus, I love you for it more each year. (arent you excited to take 4 next time??? :)

Really really long post.

You know It really bothers me that I start out every post with a "So" or a "Well". It might not seem like I over use those two words, but that’s because I force myself to erase it every time. Drives me nuts. Anyway, I can't believe my sweet baby is 2 weeks old. Actually I cant believe a lot of things right now, two that just came to mind as I was typing that were "I can't believe Neil is turning 5 in a month!" and "I cant believe Im talking about someone other than Liam when I write the words: 'my sweet baby'. *sigh* It’s been a busy few days. I told myself I wouldn't neglect my blog once the baby came. After all, newborns sleep most of the day away right? :::good intentions flying out the window:::
I got home from the Hospital on Saturday the 25th and after picking up my pain pills from CVS we went over to Marcus' parent’s house to hang out with the fam since Trav and Steph were in town from New York with their little man Collin. It was fun to have all ten cousins together.
(I just thought it was awesome that they were all sitting there looking in the cameras general direction! Who needs a smile right?)
Sunday I sent the kids off to church with marcus My mom came over and hung out with me while they were at church and after Marcus dropped the kids off to go back to do "clerky things" as the kids say. (I don’t actually remember anything that happened this day accept taking pictures of the kids and noting how pleased Neil was that I gave Adele to him instead of Ruth like he was expecting. Marcus just told me all this and im typing it up.) Then we went over to Marcus parents house to visit again.
Marcus had all week off to play stay at home dad (with a wife and new baby floating in and out of the picture.) It was very nice. Very. And this is how things went down the rest of the week:
Monday we hung out at Grandma and Grandpas house where the kids played in the pool (and Marcus got sunburned) Ruth was so proud of herself, she did a front flip off the diving board with some coaching from her Uncle Travis; Neil floated on his back without help "for 25 minutes!" (Seconds) and Liam totally blew some awesome bubbles. I was pretty impressed; my kids are pretty chickeny in the pool. Ruth usually hovers by the step in the shallow end and Neil likes his little green tube. We were all supposed to go to FHE at Marcus Aunt’s house but I didn’t feel up to it and stayed home while they went.
Tuesday I have no Idea what we did. Oh yes I do, My mom came and got me since I wasn’t supposed to be driving, and Drove me to Adele’s Dr. Appt. so she could get checked out. She has grown 3/4" and has gained back her birth weight of 6 lbs. 12 oz. plus an extra ounce (she left the Hospital at 6 lbs. 5 oz.) Im not sure if we can count that extra ounce though because she loaded up her diaper immediately after being weighted. That night we dropped the kids off with my mom and went and played bunko at Marcus' parent’s house. 2 of the 4 rounds were fun, my incision was on fire by the time we were done though. I think it was because with bunko you have to be constantly leaning forward to roll the dice. No lounging allowed, and you have to keep getting up and moving tables... but it was fun, and I hope we do it again sometime.
Wednesday Marcus took Adele to get her 2nd PKU. I hate doing that, Neil didn’t get his second one until he was like 4 months old.

Thursday I didn’t do a darn thing all day until Paula, Steph, Aubs and Karen and I went to Marcus' cousin’s bridal shower. I love showers and receptions, there is always fantastic food.
Friday I broke the "no driving after a C-section for 2 weeks" rule and drove to buy balloons for my new beehives 12th birthday and took them to the wrong house. It wasn’t as embarrassing as I always assumed it would be to knock on the wrong door, but I was buzzed into their community so they knew I was coming and I was afraid they were peeking out the window across the street giggling at me. She didn’t say anything though so I may have gotten away with it.
Saturday and Sunday were business as usual, although I did get my first taste of shopping with 4 kids under 6. Marcus was giving blood and It was taking a bit to long so we went over to Deseret book and hung out in the kids book area for 1/2 an hour or so. I like to think it went very well. Sunday my mom came over after work and watched Adele for me so I could go to church to help welcome afore mentioned new beehive. (She is one of those super smart home schooled kids and already had the theme memorized. Isn’t that just a right of passage though? To stand there blushing while everyone around you recites the theme and you are wondering if you will ever have it memorized? Oooooor was that just me?) OH! I did have a lady ask me what in the world I was doing at church?!? I told her I had a new beehive to welcome as I was heading off down the hall at the same time another lady fell into step beside me and since we were sort of walking together to the other side of the building she asks me: "So when ARE you due?" Uhhhhh. first of all I was feeling pretty good about myself because I only have 4 pounds left to lose before im at that pre-prego weight, second I thought she was someone else who the day before brought me a baby blanket and ohhed and ahhed over my sweet lovey, so I wasn’t sure what she was talking about. She noted my confused look and said "When is your baby due?" to which I half stammered half laughed out a shaky "I had her last week..." Needless to say it was a looooong awkward walk to Sunday school. OH that totally reminds me, when I was at the hospital, The nurses like you to get up and walk as much as possible so I took the opportunity to sneak out to walk when Marcus was there during his lunch break on Friday It's hard to push the baby carts around corners after a C-section. Well, while I was walking a girl was being wheeled to the exit with her new baby all ready to go home and I smiled at her as she went past and she said to me "OHHH don’t worry it wont be long for you, how many weeks pregnant are you?" Like I was walking to bring on the contractions. *Grrrr* that happened after I had Ruth too, but I was massive with her even after she came out. I just played along like I was in labor to spare her some embarrassment. But I really wanted to tell her how much cuter my baby was than hers.
MONDAY was my first day flying solo. We were totally fine! I did forget that I had my 2 week check-up though so had to take all the kids with me. Luckily Marcus popped over from work to sit with them in the waiting area so I didn’t have to heard them all back with me while I met with my Dr. We even stopped at Safeway on the way home to buy corn on the cob (5 ears for a buck!)
Today my mom watched the kids so I could take a shower. It was a nice long shower. Neil had tip testing today at Karate. He did his "kata" (a series of "Ah-yahs" punctuated by choreographed kicks and punches) perfect and was so proud to get a yellow stripe on his belt!
That is what has been going on with me...I have been very blessed with all my babies, especially this one. She is perfection; she sleeps great, eats great and has more spit on her face than is probably good for her. (Ruth, Neil and Liam give her kisses every time they walk by, I don’t know how she sleeps through Liam’s.)
Aside from being the most spit on baby, she may be one of the most photographed babies, poor dear. And most of the photos are pretty ridiculous, but I can’t help myself! It's a sickness really:
This hat reminds me of one of those old swimming caps. She looks like she is wrapped in a towel after swimming laps or something.
My sweet angel. (I totally timed this naked picture perfectly, she started piddling just as I was strapping her diaper on!)
I did it to Ruth so I didnt want her to feel left out. A lady in my ward actually brought those flowers over after we got home from the hospital.
Ruth and I were playing with our Baby Dolls.
Can you believe she is still smiling?!?
Does anyone have a cure for cheesy photography?

Wednesday morning we got to the hospital at 8:20 for the delivery of our fourth baby! It took them a while to call us back so they really only had an hour to get me pumped with two liters of saline and all the necessary needle pokes (blood draws, and IV insertion) before my surgery. Everything was going so smoothly, I was amazed! I didn't even pass out or get nauseated when I got my spinal! At 10:31 Adele was born, I saw it happen, yet it didn't feel real. At all. Even after I was taken to recovery and held her for the first time I still felt like I was holding someone elses baby. Only after having held her most of the day and getting to see her sweet nose, mouth and baby personality did I start to feel like she was mine. Ruth
and Adele
She reminds me a lot of Ruth both physically and in the way she acts that helped make it real, and gave me little de ja vu moments. I kept patting around to see if I was 80 lbs overweight... just kidding. She is a wonderful baby, I'm not sure how I got so lucky four times in a row, but I'm loving having this new little person as part of our family. I'm not the only one either:

They can NOT get enough of her. They always want to hold her, know where she is, wonder why she sleeps so much, wonder what she eats *while trying to get a gander under the blanket* I absolutely love that they want to be so involved and I hope they always love their little sister this way. Life is good.

Welcome to the world little one!

Adele ? Evans
born July 22, 2009
10:31 am
6 lbs 12 oz; 19" long
PERFECT in every way; I am so in love.

I'm too tired to post anything so I'm just putting up pictures for now. :)

I'm not even completely sure which pictures these are, hopefully they aren't too random...
